JOB DESCRIPTION 

  • Post Title: Lead AV Installation Engineer

ROLE SUMMARY

The Lead AV Installation Engineer will take on ownership responsibility for project installation, and the supervision of the installation team, ensuring all technical liaison, drawings, schematics and project documentation is completed and agreed by the project stakeholders.

The Lead AV Installation Engineer has ultimate responsibility for the technical functionality of the system and ensuring that the project is delivered to scope. In addition the Lead AV Installation Engineer may manage certain projects in their entirety to include installation, commissioning and project management.

The Lead AV Installation Engineer will also be expected to act as a Commissioning Engineer in some cases.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to)

  • Assume ownership of project installation
  • Complete on-site installation activities
  • Complete commissioning of installations where control and commissioning have not been sold
  • Complete relevant commissioning documentation
  • Configuration of video conferencing codecs
  • Configuration of relevant audio hardware and settings
  • In conjunction with PMO, ensure projects are resourced correctly
  • Provide coordination with other trades
  • Coordinate necessary CAD drawings
  • Coordinate with and direct project lead technician
  • Perform field install/troubleshooting, control system programming and engineering support as needed
  • Ability to manage small to medium projects
  • Ability to manage project installation team
  • Demonstrate job site leadership
  • Mentor less experienced technicians
  • Positive and effective interaction with internal and external customers
  • Serve as customer liaison in absence of Project Manager
  • Responsible for job documentation as needed
  • Coordinate turn-over of project to service department at the end of each project
  • Support Project Manager in the successful delivery of all projects
  • Fault finding systems and resolve issues
  • Carry out client witness testing where required in compliance with defined test plans
  • Provide user-training to end client
  • Complete system handover to clients receiving sign off and completion of final testing in accordance with test plans
  • Communicate required changes to colleagues following process and ensure data accuracy
  • Ensure all work is performed to the company standards and ensure that ISO quality standards are followed
  • Be proactive in suggesting new methods and techniques to improve efficiency

DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • An up-to-date understanding of the AV marketplace, technologies and emerging trends
  • Current technical knowledge of AV & VC equipment from major industry standard manufacturers
  • Experience of project technical oversight incorporating systems from the following areas:
    • Video conferencing (Cisco, Polycom, StarLeaf)
    • Audio DSP
    • Polycom SoundStructure
    • Analogue and digital audio mixing console
    • Front and rear projection
    • Video wall set up
    • TV distribution and IPTV systems
    • Control systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects
  • Ability to fully manage team of engineers in all projects and HR aspects
  • Ability to understand project schedule and plans
  • Ability to prioritise and work under pressure, working on multiple projects simultaneously is essential
  • Good understanding of IT and networks and the implications to systems commissioning
  • Hold recognised accreditations or qualifications, or equivalent combination of education and related field experience, including video conferencing, control system and digital media systems
  • 3 years’ minimum experience installing, commissioning or supporting complex AV systems
  • CTS qualifications an advantage, but not essential
  • CSCS is required but could be completed upon appointment
  • Polycom PCVE advantageous
  • Bi-Amp desirable
  • Crestron Toolbox and 101 desirable

  • A valid and current driver’s licence is required
